The Do’s and Don’ts of Chatting With Strangers Online

If you’re new to web chats, there are some things you should do and shouldn’t while chatting with strangers. Even if you have been using these chats for awhile keep reading, maybe you can learn something new or confirm the ones you already know.

·         Don’t:
1.      Share personal information
As fun as web chats can be, there can also be dangerous people using them. That being said you should be careful to not share personal information with them such as your home address, the school you go to or your phone number. If you feel like a person is asking too many personal questions disconnect from that chat right away.

2.      Download stuff
Another thing you should keep in mind is to not download stuff a person sends you via chatting. Some files seem like harmless pictures or videos, but they can contain viruses and more dangerous stuff that affect your online privacy. Also don’t open links and stuff like that, as you can be directed to unsafe websites.

3.      Keep talking if you feel uncomfortable
If someone makes you feel uncomfortable by asking for personal informational that we mentioned, don’t keep talking to them. Of if they keep asking you for pictures when you clearly don’t want to share one, don’t feel the need to do so. Appearance doesn’t have anything to do with online chatting so keep that in mind.

Now as long as you are careful about the stuff we mentioned above, you can enjoy online chatting to strangers and here are some things you should do while we’re at it.

·         Do’s:

1.      Stay open minded
It’s nice to talk to an open minded person, so try your best to understand and not judge stuff. Online chatting just like any other experience, it first seems weird so if you keep an open mind you’ll have a better time.

2.      Find the chats that interest you
Finding the chats that you can talk about a certain topic you’re interested on, will save you much time and you’ll have more fun. So when you’re looking for strangers to chat with try to find the ones that share the same interests as you.

3.      Listen to your instinct
Listening to your instinct never fails you. If you feel like a conversation is going well and you feel cool about it, go on. On the other hand if your gut tells you otherwise or you have a strange feeling while talking to someone, disconnect from that chat already. There are plenty of other people to talk to!
